Fractured tibia

Just wondered if anyone had any experiences of horses that havee had a fractured tibia and long term prognosis ect..

My mare did hers about 2 and a half weeks ago but it wasnt picked up on at first due to the fact she sustained a cut with the kick that ultimatly caused the fracture, and the vet therefore though she may have an infection in the cut as she wasnt severly lame.

Shes at the vets at the moment which is obviously the best place aswell as the fact its too dangerous to dransport her home in case it splinters off ect. The vet reckons 4 months and she'll be rideable. Is this realistic?

also shes a decent jumping/eventing mare- any opinions on whether she may will come back to competing successfully ect?
 
A horse of mine fractured his tibia after a kick many years ago.
He was on box rest in a robert jones bandage for 3 months. He only came out of his stable to be transported to the vets each month to be re xrayed & change the cast.
After the 3 months & the xray confirmed it had healed I was told to bring him back into work as you would after so much time off, but not to worry as unlike when they do a tendon or ligament the bone is stronger than it was before

I was very nervous the first time I jumped him

but he was as good as new & went on to event sucessfully.

I used to work for a showjumper and one of the horses landed funny after a jump and went lame. Called vet out who x rayed and found she had a stress fracture on her lower tibia. She had about 16 weeks off then was as right as rain.
She came second in the Hickstead Derby a few years back her name was Cloudy Night owned by Headley Stud.
But I do believe she is now dead

My horse fractured his radius, he had 4 mths box rest cross tied to the door for 3 of them. It was really hard at the time and when I was finally allowed to walk him in hand 3 mths down the line understandably he was full of it. I was told it could shatter at any point. Turn out was horrific, sedalined up he still gallopped full belt up and down the fence with his friend. That was 12 mths ago, we got through it and he is totally normal now, can jump etc. I was riding him after about 5 mths, building up to him being able to do anything.
Looking back the time flew although at the time I felt terrible confining him like I did.
