My boy has a fractured tooth right at the back of his mouth and had quite bad sinusitis as a result. Vet came out 2 weeks ago and removed all the stinky compacted food which was absolutely reeking, and did some work on this teeth to make him more comfortable. At a check up today, the vet is quite pleased with his progress and happy that hes not got sinusitis anymore and he has put on a little weight so all signs pointing in the right direction. Vet would like to wait to see if the tooth rots - hes not keen on removing a back tooth on a 10 year old horse. so we have another week of antibiotics to take and I am to feed him a diet with the aim of getting some weight on him.

Hes currently on Ready Mash Plus, linseed and as much hay as I can chuck at him along with a probiotic - I was thinking of just adding some conditioning cubes as these have worked to keep his condition in the past but wanted to ask if anyone else had any suggestions - anything that has worked for you to get weight on a horse after toothy or other health issues. Vet has done bloods to rule out anything else and check his liver but is fully expecting all to come back normal.

Thanks :)

Poor horse - I have a pony with a cracked tooth. He is 22 yrs old and the dentist said it's best just to manage it as a high risk with an extraction at his age. I give my pony oil in his feed to compensate with a diminshed appetite.

So yes Rice bran oil or rapeseed oil - a glug of would be my suggestion.
