Some of you may remember back in January I posted about one of my rides, a ginger ex-racer called Frank. I had hoped to get pics of him every month or so to show his improvement. He started off on 08 January looking like this (after four months of work already):

(Sorry if it's mahoosive!!)

He was beginning to get the idea that round was better and ostriches weren't the particular animals I wanted him to imitate!

He continued to improve and we took him to a lesson in the middle of February - apparently the first time he'd been to any kind of party since he raced, and the first time he'd been in an indoor school. He was an absolute saint - it was raining and absolutely blowing a gale and he just looked so chilled, even when a tarpaulin jumped out at him in the carpark! Unfortunately I don't have any pics though!

A week later he got a snotty nose and was looking pretty under the weather - turned out he had two infected teeth and his sinus on his left side was jam packed full of infection and pus :(

He had an op (general anaesthetic, too) to remove the two teeth through his cheek and they drilled into his sinus to drain it. He had the drain in for a month as it kept getting re-infected. He looked pretty poor and under the weather for a while.

He's now had the drain out and although there's a little infection still, he's getting much better and is quite well in himself. He's allowed to do 20 minutes a day of walk and a little bit of trot, and he's gaining weight again and almost starting to build a little muscle (or maybe that's my wishful thinking!)

Anyway, here we are this morning - please excuse my naughty inside leg, I don't like the saddle much as it puts me in all the wrong position and I'm constantly battling against it! I think he could be a little rounder (and definitely more consistent) but this is a bit of a "starting again" kind of post so I hope to have improved on it next month!

Great pics, he looks like is concentrating very hard bless him :D I have never been into TB's / racers but your bou looks lovely and sounds like a gentleman :)

Thanks for the comments, guys!

claracanter - I loved his head 'til he had a hole drilled into it :p and I think he looks a bit of a twonk without a noseband! I was told his racing name and, I think, breeding, but I've completely forgotten - I'm hoping to see his owner tomorrow so I shall ask again.

I absolutely adore this chap, you know :D

Ok, I've managed to remember that his racing name is Maybe Tori - is anyone any good at looking these things up? He 'chased for a while apparently, until he had a wind op and couldn't cope any more, so I imagine there's some record of him out there?!

If you go on the racingpost website, you should be able to search his career. I had a look but nothing came up. Are you sure you have the right spelling for his name?

I'm pretty certain, as his owner made sure to point out that it wasn't "Tory" as in Tory Party! I haven't been able to find anything on Google, at least. Unless "Maybe" is the wrong spelling and it's something odd?!

He's approximately 14 and I had assumed that his owner had his original passport, hence her knowing his name and all about him. I wish I had been able to ask her his breeding, I assume that would make it easier to identify him?

If you can find his race name then you can search the racing sites which will tell you his past and the sports horse database might also have some info on him.
