Frankly, I am appalled

There has been such a lot of publicity this year regarding the harmful effects of fireworks.

The fact that Sainsbury's took a stand and banned them because of the distress and harm caused must surely have made people think - nope.

I am appalled by the number selfish and thoughtless people who still think it is fine to explode the loudest fireworks they can get their hands on and over the longest period of time. Started sporadically here in mid October and intensified. There has been no respite since 29 October, sometimes starting as early as 4 o'clock.

Obviously nobody on this forum would be so unkind or inconsiderate as to buy loud fireworks. After all, we all know that sound travels and it isn't just your family or animals that are affected. Or, if you really can't live without fireworks, then you would buy silent or animal friendly ones - wouldn't you?

(incidentally not just animals but children with autism suffer, ex soldiers and people with dementia).

Please could you spread the word to those who seem unable to grasp the harm they are doing in the name of human entertainment - it may make a difference at New Year and "firework season" next year.

There is a petition doing the rounds to ban firework sales to private individuals https://petition.parliament.uk/peti...TkSNP1Qu3DTGqUpK1ks3gHMDMk5J3R7BfJdrBXXoDf8YA
Not sure whether that one is still current but if you google it some others will come up

Sadly the world we live in no longer contains respect and consideration for others - my unpleasant neighbour had some very bright very loud ones last Saturday evening without even having had the courtesy to let me know - two dogs and three horses plus yard cats fortunately didn't come to any harm but..............they didn't know that.

I think that may have been the petition that had to close early because of the dissolution of parliament.

I feel your pain. We had survived last weekend, and Nov 5th without too much distress to our severely noise sensitive dog then had all hell let loose on Thurs. Very loud, virtually continous fireworks not very far away at all. Finally found out that it was the local Junior school which is less than half a mile from us as the crow flies. A ticket only affair which apparently had been advertised on some areas of facebook that I don't see. No posters up even on the school gates. This is right in the middle of a very built up area. Really thought my older collie was going to have a heart attack. I have emailed them to request that in future they publicise it more so then I can get well away with my dogs on that evening. Why oh why do they have to be so loud!!
There were more fireworks last night too but not so bad. I am supposed to be going to a friend's 90th birthday party tonight but won't dare leave my dogs.

Its like being on bl***dy house arrest no? Plus trying to get home in time to get the dog walked and fed every evening before the worst of it starts. It should be compulsory for any public display to give advance notice. I wouldn't be surprised if the schools that dont will be the one thinking of banning clapping as its now deemed to be upsetting due to the noise
I suppose I should be grateful, currently doing significant mileage with the whippet to wear him out so starting to lose a bit of weight!

I've just read a shocking post from South Ribble Police saying they are looking for any information anyone might have on someone attaching a firework to a hedgehogs head. How someone can do that to a poor animal is disgusting. It was set alight and the hedgehog was put to sleep after horrendous injuries.

I really hope that is not true, that is disgusting behaviour. If someone really did that then it was probably filmed as thats generally the way the world works for some people, if you did something and didn't post it to social media its like it never happened for them and hopefully if any disgraceful video exists it can be used as evidence.

I'm sorry that you all have this problem too. Private fireworks are illegal in my county but that doesn't stop people. Independence Day and New Year's Eve are the big times here. The week of the fourth of July can be hell on sound sensitive dogs. I bring mine inside as soon as dusk falls and raise the sound on the TV. I try and have beef bones to distract as well.

They are illegal in my country too, but there's always people who manage to get their hands on them.

I definitely want private sales to be made illegal but I am not against properly organised licensed public displays & would hate for them to disappear completely. Sometimes I'd feel like I'm the only person left in the world who actually likes fireworks!
