Anyone experienced this?

Friend's horse is lame, originally thought tendon but now diagnosed as sesamoid. She's a 5 yrold TB (not raced).
She's been on box rest for three weeks but doesn't seem to be improving and is going stir crazy.

Has anyone been through this? A different vet (who hasn't seen her) has said that box rest is not so good but surely if it is a bone ailment then it should be kept still?

Thx

yup - scanned and ultrasounded - legs all look good apart from the frayed bit.

The only thing I can think is that the vet could mean frayed cartilage or ligament as that would make more sense

I see that you say horse has been scanned/ultrasound but has it had an xray - which would show bony changes

We have just had a horse in with a fractured pedal bone which was prescribed initial box rest and then steady controlled walking.

a frayed bone diagnosed with ultrasound sounds very odd!
However it could be sesamoid ligament?
My horse did this about 20 months ago now. He had a course of shockwave therapy to the area and was box rested through that and was then turned away for 9 months.
Now back to dressage and jumping and so far so good.

sorry, when I said 'yup scanned and ultrasounded - I meant 'yup xrayed, scanned and ultrasounded'!

xray shows is def the bone! but my friend is getting 2nd opinion anyway. which I think is a good idea!
