This weekend I witnessed the freakiest trailer accident.

A mother and daughter arrived at the coaching clinic and proceeded to unload the daughters pony. The child went inside to untie the pony and wait for the ramp to be dropped down.

Her mother undid the ramp and lowered it to the ground and as she did the bottom of one of the springs popped off it's mounting and hit her hard in the head.

She passed out as we ran to her and we called an ambulance as she was visibly injured as well.

Whisked off to hospital for several stitches just ½" away from the corner of her eye - any lower and she would have lost her eye.

Once the ambulance left we had a look at the trailer - it was really interesting and somewhat scary to see the the lip to stop the springs from slipping were very small!

We also noticed that over time the springs had slid along the mounting and I guess this one came to the end and had nowhere else to go.

Now adding to my check list before travelling - that springs are well in their housing - a good tap with a hammer when closed will return them to their proper place.

Anyone else had a freaky accident with their trailer - not caused by the vehicle or other vehicles?

not really freaky but a friend took her mare to a fun ride opened up the top door at the back and didn't tie it, wind took a hold of it and smashed her round the back of the head with it and cleanly wiped her out she woke up and kept repeating the same thing over and over again, thought it was the day before so was whisked off in an ambulance and had concussion !

Oft!

If its what I'm thinking then my old bahill trailer has springs at the sides of the ramp. Perhaps the same on older models of rice etc

Ow - I know from experience how much that hurts - fortunately I saw it coming and though it hit me by grabbing the door I didn't get the full whack
