Well Freddie the wild horse who I tore my hair out over had moved home and is away from his security blankets (his friends) and is standing on his own 4 hooves really nicely, he is becoming really bold :-) We are doing a session a day with him, lasting no more than 30 mins and it ends on him in the stable having a bowl of grub :-)

He's been in his new home a week today, and he is 2 yrs old!, previous to moving he could just about allow a headcollar to be put on gently.

This week we have introduced him to a thing called a stable and over the week shut the door and hes happy

Introduced a bridle to him, with the intention of rubbing it over his body and he opened his mouth and wanted the bit in

Walked him through water and over a stone bridge when the river was in flood beneath him

Introduced him to an electric toothbrush, after 2 days will allow it on, on his shoulder

Today he walked over a strip of tarpaline in the field and walked around a cone

Teaching him stand and walking to the end of the leadrope

Picking up front feet (fine) back feet bit wavy, but ok about it

moving vehicles around and beeping horn

roller on back, but not done up, with dangly bits both sides

Dogs loose in field (fine) Dogs following him (fine)

Taken his headcollar off today (first time since it went on in April (what have we done lol)

Combed his mane yesterday first time.

Sprayed his legs with Tick spray yesterday

He is being a total superstar and we are stopping the minute he gets bored, think hes glad for the company to be honest, will start with tying him up training next week.... is there anything else that anyone can think of to be doing with him at the moment?

Cheers

Freddie really is a superstar :D
Sounds like he is excelling himself - and enjoying every minute. Straight to the top of the class !!
I always allow the kids to run around with noisy carts, scooters even a big bumble bee umbrella. Ponies are so used to that now I think they want to join in.
Well done though all credit really does go to you just disappointed there's no more photo's.

It sounds like he is coming along really well:) the most important thing to work on will be his feet in preparation for them being trimmed, it is only fair that he is as good as possible for the trimmer/ farrier to be able to do a good job, get him really confident with them all being picked up and held for a while not just to pick out but while you pull them forward and keep him still until you let them go down gently.

Otherwise I think try not to overdo it, let lessons really sink in you have loads of time with him as he grows up.

Ohhh forgot that,. I had a golfing umbrella out today lol... you really shouldn't have mentioned photos!! Here they come!!!!! :-)

Farriers coming on Friday, she's very very patient, so we are going to just have a play with him for his first trim, he is very good with the fronts X

We didn't need to panic, he stood to have his halter back on today (phew).... had the kids riding scooters and bikes while we worked with him today, anyone else got any great ideas? X

he's doing so well! bless him!

how about "grooming" him with plastic bags to desensitise him to those?
have you got some jumps you can put alongside a fence to make corridor (like the width of a trailer?) to lead him through, and gradually make it narrower so he's comfortable with confined spaces?
how about practising putting rugs/numnahs on and off?

You are doing a great job with him. I have the book 'The 100% Horse' by Michael Peace and Lesley Bayley. It has lots of ground work ideas for training your horse.

Ohhhh sounds good!! I keep forgetting to measure those saddles!!!!, you still looking?X

Oh i just LOVE him! Hes such a sweetie, not fussed by anything! Could be doing with stealing some of your fab ideas for my 2 year old!

Ohhhhh we could pass notes!!!! lol I just want to tell people our story because he was SOOOOOOOOOOO Feral, but when they come to you, they come to you sooo strongly, hope it helps others in the same situation, he now seems unphased by anything, I appreciate he may find his feet, settle in and become a pig, but hey ho thats youngsters for you!! XX

My wee guy is the exact opposite! Had him since he was born ( Long story short- BOGOF deal!) He's a wild child! Really should compare notes!! x

nope he loves people, always in your face! Getting a bit bargey now, how do you find the rope halters for ground work?xx

Thats all I use!! What I do is pretend I have a hula hoop around me, and he's not allowed in my hula hoop! If he steps towards me he gets a finger in his chest and I make him step back without moving my feet ( u usually get him eating your hair while you do this) and he's rewarded with a rub between the eyes and "Goodboy"... if he steps forward I do the say while saying back.. he got it very fast and now stretches towards me as he knows not to step in my space. Another thing I am teaching him is stand, if he moves when i move away, he is reversed back to where I put him and so on! XX

Oh forgot to say, we handle him twice a day if we can, only for 10 mins or so! Plan to get a bridle and saddle on his this summer and do some longreining if he's suited to it, and possible have a sit on him, then this winter he is going to be a big boy and come in every night and have a routine, then next summer start with his education again XX You? ps post some photos of your big boy!! XX

Sounds perfect! Much the same I reckon, just lots of games! Going to start big boy boot camp, lots of playing in the school. He's well handled, gets his tendon boots on to go out walks too!
I'm having issues with photobucket, but I shall try! he's not very big, about 14.3hh ish, mums about 15.3hh, and dads a mystery!!xx

Aww bless him! He sounds lovely!, whats his name?

Awwww that's a lovely name :-)

He usually just gets called Bob though. Going to get him in this weekend- his field is a quarter of a mile walk down the road, and its not ideal to try bringing him up when im myself. He goes from being a quiet lamb to a hot blooded racehorse! And likes a strop. so its safer with two people. Hes not bad, just cheeky! I shall update you! xx
