Free advertising... warning.

I've found out that some of the 'free ads' sites for horses change your phone number so prospective buyers have to use a different code, and charge them 59p a minute to call you. This can put some people off calling.
The sites claim this is for your security, but it isnt... they get paid by the phone companies to do this, so in essence still make a profit from your ad. I used one very popular site and didnt have a clue!

yes - this is tue - thats how they make their money from giving free adverts to sellers!!! i have to say - i found that things only really sell in ad trader etc if they're not too expensive - but it is cheeky charging -

QR Usually they will remove the ad if there is an email address in it. Just out of interest how did you think the companies make their money from free ads? Surely they don't do it out of the goodness of their hearts? IF it is a choice between me paying £20 to advertise or the buyer paying a couple of quid for a phone call (not even that as they can ask for your number at once and call you back) then I know which I would prefer!

Horsegirl - May I just say that I currently run a website offering free advertising for horses etc. and YES I do it out of the goodness of my heart! I planned to make some money through charging companies to advertise (just to cover maintenence / cost of site as it was just a hobby more than making ANY profit!).

There are some free sites which are good, but you just need to read the small print! Or just go with well known UK sites.

A friend of mine also has a free ads site and like you does do it from the goodness of her heart, numbers are not changed, and you can put your email address if you want to.

Yes some sites do change numbers but its not all of them!

i put my email on everysite i advertised on (only advertised on free sites)

kinderhorse: i had about 10 scammers before actually getting some "real" people that where interested !!!
