Free lessons??

Advice please . . . .

I've plucked up the courage to book my PTT course starting in a few weeks time!! I have taught in the past but not for a few years and now work full time in an office. Am doing this because I really enjoy teaching and would like to do it part time round my office job and then hopefully more full time later on in life.

Only problem is that I won't be practising what I'm learning as I'm not working in a riding school / yard at the moment.

BHS say it's not a problem but I would feel happier practising.

Would it be worth me offering free lessons? Would anyone be interested? Not sure where I would stand on insurance etc and if it would be a problem?
 
I'd definately offer free lessons - but state very clearly your position / insurance etc. Keep it simple with basic lessons and teeny jumps only to minimise the risks.

Lots of trainers etc aren't actually BHS qualified.

I think practising is definately the best way to improve, and to try different things out in lessons.
 
This is exactly what my friend is doing! She just makes sure that all people she teaches have insurance of their own.

Be very very careful though, because my friend is building up a customer base, all of whom are enjoying the free lessons but think they will be free forever.

Make yourself very clear when you offer the lessons as to what you are offering. Otherwise people might try take the mick!
 
Have you spoken to any of the riding schools near you, they would probably be delighted to let you teach or help with lessons and you would be covered by their insurance and might also get some free training.
