Free neutering for farm dogs

Has anyone heard of this - is may be only the WAG running this scheme, but I believe there may well be funding on for neutering farm dogs.

If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be most grateful.
 
Ok found more out about this scheme with a frantic google!

This scheme is being run in conjunction with Dogs Trust. ATM I believe this scheme is for wales (at least the one I'm looking at)

They will also microchip at point of neuter as well.

I don't know any details, but I saw a notice up on the vet's bulletin board a fortnight ago. Headline read "Free neutering for farm dogs". This was in North Wales near Pwllheli, so may only be a welsh thing.

Might be worth giving your vets a ring.

Now I have to be brave and send my little princess off to have it done. She's as tough as old boots, but still my little baby!! Should have had it done with both of them at the same time!!!
 
heard a thing on the radio about this with farmers basically saying they do not have the time/money to neuter/chip what could be 5-6 dogs

Yep entirely- and the time off work thing too. I know a farmer by us had one of theirs done and because it could not shadow the older dog for a few weeks was never as good as his sister (she would have probably been better anyway)!!
 
Farms have holding numbers - you have to provide this at point of booking.

It's a super initiative as I am pretty sure farm dogs rate right up there after puppy farming, as one of the biggest reasons we have unwanted dogs. The lady I spoke to was really helpful and said that while they have been given the funding they are doing their best to get as many people doing it as possible :)

I do sometimes wonder this re the amount of collies. The ones that dont sell or make the mark for working that seem to end up in rescues or PTS.


Anyone who is in the hampshire/west sussex area I have found a really good deal through a charity for neutering PM me for details and you dont have to be on benefits etc.
 
Reading this I cannot tell if it is directed at Puppy "Farm" dogs or at Agricultural Working "Farm" dogs.....or, does it include all dogs who reside on a farm?
 
Farm as in a farm, sheep/cattle/crops/chickens. That kind of farm.

It includes all dogs that reside on your farm, not just working collies. My bitch is a jrt. They will also chip at the same time, so excellent for little wanderers!
