Hi!

Does anyone know of a supplier who makes a good lightweight, free standing gate, preferably one you can hand on sturdy show jump wings? It would be for things like Trec, Hunter comps, Working equitation, etc. So the test is to open the gate and close it after you. The jump manufactures I’ve looked at so far just seem to have gate fillers/hanging gates?

Thanks :)

If you need to practice at home you could use two jump stands with a rope in between, fixed at one end with a loop on the other. One of the longer lead ropes would do the trick. The stands need to be about four feet apart.

Having said that .. if you happen to know someone with a welder, a western trail gate would be the way to go .. google it to get an idea what they look like .. loads cheaper tha those others

We have one and it was I think just over £100 - the people that make the Arena Mate used to make them, not sure they still do.
But to be honest, it's a bit of a faff - you have to weigh the stands down otherwise it tips which can be really dangerous, and it's not ideal for a lot of novice/horses riders as it's easy to pull over or get caught in. Most western comps now use a rope gate as Rhandir has described - not as challenging but safer.

Thanks so much all for the replies! The ones sold by countryside Show jumps are perfect, but unfortunately way out of my budget - but you've all given me plenty to look into as an alternative :)
Thanks again
