Having had my mare removed from my field, by her previous owner who is saying due to no bill of receipt she is still hers, despite a transfer of ownership form and passport in my name, the police saying im wasting my time as i have no number or address for this girl, i am now looking for somethig 14.2-17hh, age unimportant, to give a lovely home to. if u or anyone you know can help, please do. x

Surely that can't be right. Are the police saying that if someone steals my horse and I don't know their number or address, then I'm wasting my time trying to find her?

sounds like a suspicious /wierd post- you loaned a horse/bought a horse from someone who you dont even have the name of- surely who's name should be on the passport? and now its gone- your now looking for something new within 24 hours?!

Oh no :(, I commented on your last post about the ownership issue.

That is just not the way to go about things, taking the horse from the field.
I'm sorry, you must be gutted.

Unfortunately in these circumstances the police have a reputation for being as much use as a chocolate tea pot

Hope you find a lovely horse. For what it is worth I think you have a case but the time/hassel are rarely worth it. :o

i was given my lad 5 years ago but if his old owner came and tried to or even succeeded in removing him from my paddock i would pursue them to the full degree of the law and at least insist on them paying the bill for the amount of time i have cared for him (which is easierly 20k+)

i wouldn't be giving up that easy, get on to the cba and get some proper advice.

Sammi has been posting over the past couple of days - her situation has been developing.

Sammi - how about this one? http://www.horsehunter.co.uk/152hh-ob-for-Loan-p-81991.htm
still odd- not to have the previous owners name on the passport- all my horse's passports have all past owners on- so why cant this be passed onto the police? And I find it odd to me so happy to move on and find something new when your still tracking the old horse?

I would be too upset to be looking for something new- how long did you have the first horse for before it was stolen?

Ive read your previous posts and felt quite sorry for you, but to be honest I now find this a bit strange, I would be in pieces if this had happend to me and the last thing i'd be worried about is posting asking for a new horse, i'd be trapsing the length and breadth of the country tracking this woman down if I had no address for her.

I too am confused? The owner contacted you to indicate that because there was no receipt she would be removing her from your paddock? And yet you have no contact information for her? Surely it can't be both..

You should INSIST that they do something! They're just fobbing you off!

Is the address in the passport? The pony used to be registered to her, and usually the owners name and address are printed in the passport. Where did you originally get the pony from? Could you drive down there and do some sleuthing?

I wouldn't be giving up so easily.

Could you answer some of the questions asked on your earlier threads please? You did ask for advice, you're rather leaving people hanging. For example - where do you keep your horse that would allow someone to just turn up and take it? Did they travel her without her passport (in which case maybe contact trading standards). Have you contacted your insurance company for advice yet? What about previous owner details on her passport? If she contacted you, don't you have a record of at least the telephone number she rang you on?

I agree with this, you changed the passport details so must have some kind off record to by go plus you had her on loan to start with, must off had a loan agreement set up which would state her details

Has the owner moved from when you originally got the horse? If you have no details for her - how do you know this? As I said earlier....how did she contact you?

Have you driven down to were she lived beforehand? The horsey world is a small one, someone in the area will know where she has gone.

Unless these answers are cleared up - then I doubt anyone is going to offer you another horse on loan and quite frankly, if I was in your position, I certainly wouldn't want to loan again!

i have a pony that was gifted to me, i got her on loan in april 2006, by june 2006 her owner asked me if i'd mind her giving her to me. of course i didn't!

she sent me a letter saying that she was giving the pony to me and that i was free to do with her as i wished. she also told me that i could change the passport over to my name.

i went to her wedding in 2007, we are sort of in contact via facebook and email but i still haven't changed the passport over. we have agreed now that there's no point, she can't have the pony back, i wouldn't sell her on and basically we are all happy with the arrangement.
however if the pony went missing she would be the first person i would contact and if she had nothing to do with it then i would hound the person down. i would not give up until i knew where she was and i had her back.

the police aren't always interested in equine matters, in my case there would be 2 of us fighting to get her back.
have you thought about contacting horsewatch or an equine part of the police force local to you??

you say you have the letter telling you to transfer ownership and you did it, she signed the transfer part, i know a passport isn't proof of ownership BUT if what you say is correct then the police should be looking into it. also you should have at least her name, the police can locate her just from the name and area. it's not difficult but you will have to put pressure on the police.

i know of a horse 16.2hh irish draught cross 9 yrs old - has hock spavin and can only hack at moment, has had injections in hock and possibility he be capable of more in future. the owner is looking for a new home but would need to be the perfect home for him for her to let him go and be assured he wouldnt be passed on or pushed beyond his current capabilities. he is in staffs though dont know if too far.

Absolutely right. Also, yes passport is not proof of ownership, BUT how can she prove she owns the horse?

I think get some advice, stick with the police as technically she has stolen him.

the burden of proof is on her to prove she owns this horse and not you. Stick with it. Maybe asking for another horse on loan could be your way of dealing with the sudden loss of your horse but if you are 100% sure you want and believe this horse to belong to you then fight it.
