As in the title really, I have written an ad for my friend who has an unbroken tb for sale which she rescued from the meatman, he was skin and bone but now looks loads better, he has had feet trimmed, dentist etc, has had a roller and bridle on, been lead out in very busy traffic, still needs muscle and spring grass, he is very laid back but he is 8 so he is advertised for 250 pounds. However all she is getting are people who have no money to buy him but can offer him a good home! She is losing money on him already and her situation means she does actually need that little bit of money. Has this happened to anyone else?

If they can't afford £250 to buy him how could they afford to keep him  Esp as he is a TB.
Hope you manage to find him a nice home.

the price is too low! at that price you will only attract people with no money who think you just want to get rid of the horse. if the horse is going to be ridable with work you should have a look at project horses website:)

That price is TOO LOW.Needs to be higher.Attracting the wrong type of people,as said if they cant afford £250.00 they wont be able to keep him especially a TB.
Try putting 600.00 at least. I payed £400.00 for a TB cross in 1985 and he was very naughty.Turned out lovely tho.RIP Sirrocco

Her plan was to break him over the summer, she has started him off, which he genuinely seems totally happy with, but he hubby has upped and left her with 4 littlies so where as her plan was to wrk him in the evenings she has sort of lost her free time and the money to pay anyone to help her, she has been offered some help from a 15year old riding school girl, but the implications just wouldnt be worth it if anything went wrong.

Ditto Ditto Ditto

Put the price up now! People who can afford to buy a TB can afford to look after one. This may sound a bit harsh but would you like to see him go to someone who couldn't afford the costs to look after him after all her hard work? No!

It's a lovely thought to offer someone a cheap horse but it's a false economy.

I hope you and your friend find him a great new home but it's a shame she can't keep him. Good luck :-)

Tbh I don't think the price is wrong, £250 for a tb 8 yr old un broken I think is fair. Def would not paid 600/700 that's just stupid. At the mo in our area u could get a lovely horse for that or for 300 a fully broken tb doing well so 250 I think is fair

Again price to low
Could you not put her location on here someone might be prepared to take on a project / loan or want to generally help either that put on project horses

Maybe there was a good reason that he was going for meat - has it seen the vet?

Just wondering if people are spotting something fairly obvious and aren't willing to pay!

He was only going for meat as his owner had given up ans he had been just turned out since a yearling, as he was unbroken and in a poorstate he couldnt see the point of selling him other than for meat x

Sorry but offering him at that low price (meat money) he will certainly either end up in Potters or a dealer will get him. The price needs to be at least above MEAT money.(Id ask for £500-£ 700) I certainly wouldnt sell to JUST anyone especially if they havent bothered seeing it and had background checks were not done on prospective buyers etc.No way on this earth. Id rather PTS.

Even if you advertised him at £600+ and then lower the price on viewing, or let them haggle you down.
The key element is attracting the right sort of buyer, and with the current price, you're really not.

I'd be inclined to advertise him at £500 ono, then be prepared to accept an offer of £250 - 300. I think that he probably isn't worth much more as he is than you're asking, but the low price probably is attracting the wrong interest. So go up a little, but be prepared to come down to what you originally wanted!

In his situation, www.projecthorses.co.uk would probably be a good place to advertise him.
