Two year old 11.2 chestnut mare. Lots of attitude, wary of strangers but fine once she gets to know you. Has the most beautiful little nose you just want to kiss, although you'd be lucky to get close enough to do it. Has fantastic potential as a pony club pony, would excel in SJ and proves this on a daily basis as she clears the electric fencing in her paddock with ease. Lots of speed so gymkhana is a must, can turn on a sixpence, again this is demonstrated daily on going to catch her. Very independent lady who can be turned out on her own (read, you can take every bloody horse on the whole yard in so she cannot see or hear anyone else and she doesnt give a stuff) but will settle in to a herd with ease. Will plant herself on the spot if she does not want to come in, but this can be solved by backing her up the lane to the yard, just ignore the strange looks from passers by. Would also make a fantastic endurance pony as she has proved from hours chasing her round the field. Again, she does a beautiful extended trot and could be schooled in dressage, has a fantastic outline, this has been shown when she was followed closely by the quad bike on one attempt to catch her, we gave up when it got dark. This mare is extremely smart, she proves this each time we work out a tactic to catch her or keep her in her paddock, it works once and then you try it again she wont fall for it.

In short a very strong willed mare who will give you hours of keep fit chasing her round the field, the odd pulled arm socket from racing off just as you grab her headcollar and lots of hours problem solving trying to work out a way to keep her in a small paddock and make her more catchable.

First to catch her can have her. Dont bother bringing food, lassoos, rope or friends to catch her, corner her, herd her or bribe her, we've tried it all

It will only work once but have you tried walking into field (past her if necessary) then just sitting smack down in the middle, I suggest taking a book with you and you may need to hide the rope!
wink.gif
and if it doesn't work no exercise done on your part
grin.gif
grin.gif

And never a better candidate for a grazing chain if ever I saw one
tongue.gif
on the presumption you can catch her that is

I spend FIVE hours sitting in the field, I finished the damn book, got cramp, ate all my sandwiches, got bitted god only knows how many times and the battery on my ipod run out and she didnt come within 25 meters of me once. The leadrope was in my bag at the bottom the whole time

Not to mention the daily poo picking, this tactic worked once a while back, but she hasnt fallen for it since

mines a tad bigger, but recently lost his headcollar in the ten acre field.

even worse he comes to you, but won't let you touch him, shimmies under anything used to pen him in, or goes over. That included herding him into a pen made out of 5 foot gates, he went over...from a near stand still
frown.gif

needless to say he is still out and still head collarless

Mrs M, I can't believe that I am on the laptop on a Saturday night looking for your posts to see what your little men are up to now!!!!!!!!

shocked.gif
she can jump the fencing from a stand still, looks beautiful popping it from a canter though
grin.gif

She too was headcollar free at one point, I couldnt believe it
confused.gif
got her in to a space about the size of a foaling box with TWO 15.2 horses and still took me 45 minutes to catch her and put the headcollar on. Once it was on she stood fine, but getting it on we had several rears, lots of running under the other two's heads and some very nifty footwork

grin.gif

Good luck catching yours! I fear you may need it.......
