Hi,

I'm about to go freelance having previously mainly taught in riding schools. Have my A.I. but my Equine Specific First Aid ran out in December. Since then I have done a one day St John's "First Aid for Appointed Persons". However in order to register with the BHS register of instructors (and thus be covered by their insurance) I need either the three day St John's course or the two day Equine Specific course.

Main problem I have is that I can't find many first aid courses locally to me that are run in the school holidays which is the only time I have childcare for my 16month old. I'm her sole carer as her father works away, my mum is the only person who could realistically look after her for three full days on the trot and she is an FE lecturer so not available term time.

I'm wondering what my options are regarding alternative insurance bearing in mind I do have an up to date first aid qualification. I also *think* I have an up to date CRB - I had an enhanced one done for my last job about 2 years ago which I'm pretty sure I could use.

thanks for any information.

Sorry, thought the red icon was a question mark. Now realise it is a thumbs down but can't edit. [stupid]

My Insurance is with Shearwater too - give them a call, they're very helpful and friendly! Re First aid, have you contacted St Johns Ambulance? They are really helpful (did mine with them at days to suit).

Good luck! x

I had mine with lycetts before going BHS. I had never heard of them but they sponser a few BE events and were the cheapest by far.

Just a note CRB can not be transferred from one job to another, so one you got for previous job is not vaild for any other job. You would need a new one to go on BHS register. although the CRB people are looking into making them transferrable it wont be any time soon.

Shearwater or SEIB are the cheapest I found, if you get a quote of SEIB make sure you go through the number on the Derby House website/catalogue as a referrer - you get a £100 Derby House voucher back after a couple of months if you take the policy out

keibs do it too, i am with them and for some reason to be a freelance groom you need instructors insurance first and then get an add on for grooming:confused:
