freestyle prelim

I'm just working out my floor plan for my first prelim freestyle test. Can I do walk to canter in it? Pony finds walk to canter easy and gets more balanced canter than from trot.

No you can't. No movements allowed that are not in a prelim test.

It's not on the list of prohibited things
You are NOT allowed: Medium or Extended Trot Medium or Extended Canter or Counter Canter Rein Back Any Lateral Work Simple Changes or Flying Changes Canter to halt Any Pirouettes Piaffe or Passage Reins in one hand
Will one step of trot inbetween suffice?

Bit at the bottom. I would say you'd need a few strides of trot.
