How much does it cost to freezebrand a horse? And are there any other ways of making him less likely to be stolen, or helping his recovery if he is?

Also, can the brand go underneath the saddle?

Mid, about £40 to £45, there are discounts available if you can get in a bulk freezemarking session local to you, or for Horsewatch membership or for BHS membership. This includes registration for 1 year.
The horse can be marked on the left shoulder or on the left side of the back under the saddle area, can be ridden after 2 days if shoulder marked, 4-5 days if on the back
Farmkey usually do 4 digits, Freezemark do 3 but either will do special ones to order and extra charge (HO55 or similar - you get the picture)

The alternative is microchipping, this does not have the 100% recovery rate of freezemarking and is not a visible deterrent. If a freezemarked horse is stolen the marking companies will help with advertising.

It is relatively painless for the horse and usually there are no problems at all, grey horses need to baldmarked, the irons stay on longer to kill the hair grownth instead of just turning it white. You might need to clip the marked area during winter so that the mark can be easily read

£37.95 with Farmkey if 2-4 horses done at the same time. Can go on saddle area, unless grey as bald marks are done on the shoulder to prevent any potential rubbing. Mine was done last week and didn't lift her head from her feed!!!
