Heard something disturbing yesterday regarding my horse Mae. There is a guy who has been bugging me to sell her to him and i refuse as hes a dodgy dealer. Anyway i dont want to sell her.

He was at a pub on saturday night, same one as YO. He approached YO and asked if i was still using his stables and YO said yes. He said would he turn a blind eye to him coming up with a trailer, would be in and out in a matter of minutes. YO told him where to go and reminded him of the CCTV that is around the yard, that if he saw him at the yard he would call the police.

Now Mae is out in a field at the mo, she is in the next town over, its out near the country and the people live right next door, their living room faces out to the field.

Im wanting to bring Mae back to the yard but OH says not to worry that the guy has no idea where Mae is and shes safe enough. I told him i want to freeze mark her to deter anyone taking her.

Shes a brillant girl, was offered £5000 for her and turned it down. Shes not perfect, but shes perfect for me.

The people that own the field are soo lovely, they text me every morning and night to say how the horses are, also i see them myself twice a day. They give them wee treats daily.

Im starting to think i shouldnt have horses lol

BTW only OH and me know where horses are, i havent told friends or YO etc, incase they get drunk and let slip to the wrong person

Def recommend freeze marking.
Mary at Freezemark is lovely

Do vets do it or do you have to get someone out specially to do it?

I talked about getting her done a while ago but listened to stupid people saying to me that it will leave her with a flaw!

How much does it cost? Also if she was yours, would you leave her in the field or bring her home again?

I ould def get her freezemarked! Even persoalised marks dont cost that much, and I wouldnt say they left the horse with a flaw.
I thik they can be quite subtle, and if you have it done under saddle no one can see it when you ride.

I would rather have a horse with a freezemark than no horse.

I would rather a 'flawed' horse as some would say then no horse. You could also get her chipped? Hopefully he is just being an idiot and is no real threat.

I think I would bring her home.
But thats me.
Go onto the freezemark website or get H&H 29th issue as Winston and me are on page 12 advertising it

We move to our new yard on the 4th January, OH says its best to leave mae where she is until then as if she was at the yard then the guy would know where she is.

New yard has CCTV, there are people who live at the yard. Front gates are padlocked at night and you have to go up a longish lane to get to it.

The current ones dont move out until the 2nd January, so no chance of getting them there before that.

Im going to call my vet today and get her done. How does it work on a white horse as i am going to get my other ones done

OH used to work with this guy, and hes a real d**k, he thinks he said this cause he was drunk as Mae was in a field before and he knew where she was. Hes the one i got Gypsy from, the horse that was really nervous and was beaten up.

She is microchipped already but was told that isnt much of a deterant.

Thank you guys, im sure yous are sick of me by now

Just feel like its one thing after another. Shes a lovely gypsy cob and has the sweetest personality. Shes brought me from a nervous wreck to heading out to a few shows and loving it! Some have said that i should have sold her for the £5000 and got another horse but i dont think there is another Mae about. We bonded really quickly and she adapts herself to whatever confidence i have.

If im not at the yard shes a cow for OH lol, he put her in the arena to run about while he cleaned her out, and refused to come near him again when he went to catch her. Ended up having to come get me (was in bed real sick) and when i called her she came trotting over. OH wasnt amused.

For a 4 year old shes well behaved, she gets jealous when i work with the others, i sit on her in the stable and chat to her while she munches her hay, and every so often she turns her nose to my foot lol.

When i think back to when i got her a year ago, the shy little girl who was getting bullied. Now she does the bullying and is always the first one to the gate or the first to call out in the morning. Im very protective of her, if shes in the arena and i walk about lifting the poo she follows me, if OH comes to walk around with me, she stands between us lol.

ive had mine freezemarked... hasnt affected tilly my shetland and i show her quite regulary and no one has marked me down because of it! my cobs just be re-done so im still waiting for that to come through properly but neither can be seen once a saddle is on.... its most def a deterrent and i can highly recommend you getting your cob done!!!

I insist on having all of my animals freezemarked. get it done asap, I think this 'flaw' is far better than losing your horse. It must be a worry for you right now.
On white horses the iron is held on slightly longer and you will need to clip the area in winter. White horses must be freezemarked on the shoulder.

All our horses are freeze marked, never had any comments in the show ring and the horses dont seem to mind the marking. Its the only sure way to keep your horse. Ours were done by Farmkey.
Gypsy cobs and coloureds are the ones that go walkies and its VERY hard to prove its your horse, even in the unlikely event you find her once shes stolen.
Ignore the people who say it will leave her with a flaw, im sure you would much rather have your horse, they are just ignorant.
