I had my mare done under the saddle, i think it looks nicer, my old pony was done on his shoulder and eveyone was always asking what it was, i used to say he used to be a pit pony and that was his number lol!!
I prefer it on the shoulder myself, but had no choice with Patches as she's a blue and white (but just looks grey now she's not a yongster anymore) and she required a bald mark, which can only be done on the shoulder
shoulder, i'd never have the saddle area done, have heard a few stories of the 1-in-a-thousand horse who got muscle damage from it and wasn't rideable after, just my luck if it was mine!
Shoulder. If it goes wrong and is left bald you don't have problems. My grey mare has a freeze mark on her shoulder and thank god it is there as in summer it burns and can occasionally blister.
Shoulder. I want everyone to know mine are freezemarked.
Also, I have found that all of ours grow so much coat over winter that even the black ones needed to be clipped, and I would rather not have a thin haired patch under the saddle.
Shoulder, less time off riding, more visible to anyone who eyes up your horse when its out thinking they might steal it, less chance of it causing problems if t stays bald
i prefer under the saddle. I show mine so under the saddle looks better and to be honest is just as visable as the one on the shoulder, niether can be seen if you put a rug on, the only time the one under the saddle cant be seen is when there is a saddle on, so as that is normaly just an hour or 2 a day i realy cant see why you would say it is less visable. even my fluffball pony who grows a 6 inch thick coat in winter has his perfectly visable without clipping.
I'm with conniegirl, I prefer under the saddle especially if the horse is just one colour (or mainly one colour) as it is neater. I've never had a problem with it there.
shoulder. i have all mine freezemarked. the first one was under the saddle andal is fine, but i've recently read on a thread on this forum of someone whoes horse had the irons left on a little too long resulting in bald marks [ like when they do greys, they leave them on to kill the hair]. under the saddle this can cause rubbing problems, so just to be on the safe side i always have them marked on the shoulder now.
also they can put a saddle on the horse and sell it in the auction ring wearing a saddle and bridle. if its marked on the shoulder the freezebrand would still show up for all to see.
You want people to see the freezemark in the event of the horse having been stolen so always put it on the shoulder. Also always take photos of your horse from all 4 sides so that if it is stolen you can quickly circulate pictures.
