I have just had a reply from the passport agency and yes you do have to have the passport updated, you have to send it in and they will update the backpage and their database and of course they will charge £10 - more money to find.
I have Farmkey coming in a couple of weeks to do my boy before he goes out on loan - they've been an absolute disaster so far! Never call back when they say they will, arranged it for the one day I specifically said I couldnt do, etc....not holding out much hope of them even managing to find the yard! When I said I couldn't make the day they'd arranged, they just told me to get someone else to hold the horse (despite me saying I would probably need to sedate him....)
I dont know if you do need to get the passport updated.....my vet updated my passport when he microchipped my horse, just stuck a sticker over where it asked for MC number.
We will see how things go on Sat but so far I've had no trouble with the organisation, I rang them, they got back to me with the first available date which was ok, I requested a time before 1pm due to other commitments and they accomodated us (shame it is an 8.30am appt on a Sat though!) and then confirmed it all in a letter with all the paperwork. So we will now see if they find the yard and turn up on time!

Can I recommend freezemark
Mary was the driving force in freezemarking in the UK, the company she started with was eventually taken over and moved. I have used Freezemark for all my horses and never had a problem
I wholeheartedly agree, Freezemark.biz are so much better, including in how they apply the irons. I have a lot of bad reports about Farmkey, but never heard anything bad about Freezemark. I have just had another three done, they have done six of mine to date, and I have never had any problems, not even with my dapple grey mare. (They are also slightly cheaper!!)
As for the Passport, it is not ESSENTIAL you have it updated with the Freezemark, but obviously sensible. Some PIO's will request you send in a certificate from the Freezemarkers, this comes as standard with Freezemark.
I had 7 horses done last saturday with farmkey i had no problems with them at all, they where running late but they did phone to say so. The lady i had was very good with the horses. Sorry didn't like freezemark as they only do 3 brands where farmkey do 4, so i thought there was room for someone to add to the freezemark if the horses was stolen.
Had my mare done a month ago and phoned the passport people, you do not have to tell them while the horse is in your care, but if you sell the horse you may change the passport for £7, then they will pop it in the horses passport book. And you all so get a year free memership from farm key for insurance.
