OK....I'm having my horses freezemarked as a visible deterrent......I like the idea of micro-chipping but TBH I want the theiving barstewards to be able to see the freezemark and hopefully not bother....

I'm planning to organise a session on the yard for whoever wants it doing as its cheaper for group bookings....has anyone got any experiences of any of the providers...good or bad....I was thinking of Farmkey as thats the one that sprung to mind, but any info or recommendations gratefully accepted....

i went for shoulder cos my horse has had back issues with badly fitting saddles so wanted no more excuses from her!

I used Farmkey a few weeks ago on my cob and she was brill with him, and they set it up so quickly. I had a booking within a week, they also let you pick where you want the freeze mark to go.

Also they have a discount (on top of the group discount, if still doing it) if you are NFU,BHS and something else member.

I would most def use them again.

Remember when having a grey done they need to be done for twice as long as the actual hair producing cells need to be killed off. With a bay etc they only need to kill the pigment producing cells so it grows back white. Therefore a grey needs to done on the shoulder or else the resulting bald patches will be prone to rubbing/sunburn. Hope this helps.

I was also told when i posted that in winter you will have to clip a square out so that you can still see it cos the winter coat obscures it, that's if you don't already clip.

I had Farmkey last year for my three and was very pleased.

Just out of interest, how many of you keep up the yearly subscription? What with the credit crunch etc, I'm trying to keep costs down and wondering whether to risk not paying it and hope the freezemark alone will put thieves off?

I had Freezemark Ltd and preferred them, their service was excellent & I was able to choose personalised marks with only two digits, so less discomfort for the horse and less distracting. They did the marks perfectly first time.
