Freezemarking on Coloureds

Hi,

Am looking to get my two coloureds freezemarked, but since they are both used for showing want to know if this effects the marking in anyway?

Also, would of liked it done on their backs (under the saddles) but they are white on those placed, can you freemark on white and what does it look like??

It is not supposed to make a difference. I have seen most colourds with freeze marks in dark patches.

You can't freezemark (bald mark) on white in the saddle area. The iron are left on longer on white areas so the hair folicle is killed, thus the letter/number becomes bald skin (I'm guessing pink skin as coloureds), which contrasts with the coated area round it. Bald marks need to be kept clipped to stay highly visible. It would be better to have them marked on a dark patch if possible.

When freezemarking a coloured, the operators will always try to mark on a dark area. If there are no suitable dark areas then they will bald-mark on a white shoulder. Freezemarking of grey (white) can be highly visible summer and winter when done properly, and providing the area is kept clipped during winter (many dark horses need to be clipped during winter if they grow long coats as the mark becomes unreadable, so no difference there)
Judges are not permitted to penalise a Freezemark.

I had my coloured freezemarked on his shoulder on a dark area as was white under saddle, also means less time off work. I have shown him from local level up ro RIHS and never been marked down for it or even had it commented on. I prefer it to be visable.
