I am considering having my mare freezemarked, possibly by Farmkey. She is of a quite nervous disposition around people as it is, does anyone have any experience of Farmkey, or are there better alternatives.

Thoughts and views most welcome!!

There are two main companies that do freezemarking, Farmkey and Freezemark .

in terms of technique there is little to choose between them, both run registers and work in similar ways. Farmkey standard mark is 4 figures, Freezemark standards mark is 3 figures - so marginally less stress for the horse. Both do marks that you can select for extra cost.
My loyalty is to Freezemark because I have known Mary for a long time, and she was at the very beginning of freezemarking, I also find them a bit quicker to respond and make appointments -but that is a perosnal choice.

I had George done by farmkey and I have to say their organisation, communication and admin is pretty awful - well it was for me, and I had to deal with them twice as I had to have George re-done as instead of his mark being S61D it looked like it said SOLD! However, the technician who came was brilliant, really patient and good with the horses.

We had a job lot done at our yard by Farmkey. We had no problems at all with the woman who came out. My horse is a big wimp and I was a bit worried but he was fine. I had his done on his shoulder. Good luck whoever you go with

Ive had farmkey out to do 4 out of my 5 (5th was done before i got him). They were brilliant, the technician was up within a week of me calling.
3 of the 4 horses done were not phased at all by it, even our very nervy arab stood like a donkey for it.
The 4th pony stood like an angel for most of it, then he decided to throw a tantrum (he does that occasionaly) the lady was realy brillliant with him and managed to get him done without to much stress

I personally also support Freezemark as the original Freezemarking company, with an excellent record in all respects. I have heard many bad stories about Farmkey and only one about Freezemark. Freezemark are also cheaper. I have had six done, including two greys, and three donkeys, all with absolutely no problems.

i support freezemark, we couldnt get a time from farmkey & were told we'd have to wait for them on the day they were due which didnt suit me or the others that were being done. i was still unable to make it so dad was there & linx was as good as gold apparently. the only prob with freezemark ive had is that the tech didnt have any wallets to keep all the docs in & we never had them sent through

All ours have been done (exept one) by farmkey, and ive always found it to be a great service. Weve had 6 done over a few years and they are very good with the horses.
I had another one done by a different company that has now closed and apparently it could cause real prolems if we wanted to sell him as they cant change the owners details. Not that we would sell him, weve had him 23yrs!!
