I have had my mare freezemarked twice now on the same spot and I still only have around 10 white hairs on the letters, although you can see the letters faintly (they are like a poor quality hot brand mark). Question is do I give up on freezemarking since my mare must have skin like a rhino or have a third go at it. And should I ask for my money back, I paid for a service and have yet to see how an invisible freezemark is going to protect my mare from a possible theft

Presumably you used the same company both times? Give them a ring and explain that the mark has failed again and ask for a refund - then go and get her microchipped instead.

Yes I used same company both times they came out free of charge to remark her the second time, she is already chipped that was done years ago. But I really wanted a visual deterrent, she is a coloured cob mare which seem to be the type which are stolen. Think I shall ring them on monday and explain that I still have no mark, you can really only see there is something there if you know its is there (if you know what I mean)

Just a thought - does it show up better if you clip the area?

Or - if it is on her wither, then ask them to try freezemarking her shoulder instead.

Because of her patches of colour being in funny places she was done at the side of her tail, (like number plates lol), I clipped the area today and there is no sign really of a freezemark that is ledgable. She has no colour at all on her shoulders, unless I go for a bald mark, but since she has pink skin under her white fur would it stand out enough ?

Mister Jay, a palomino, has had to be freezemarked twice. His original one only has about 5 white hairs, so Farmkey came out do do it again (holding the irons on for longer): now, it's visible with his summer coat, but still not his winter one!

You can't see the freezemark on my cob either - out of the 4 letters there is only one you can see - not bothering to do it again as it made her really uncomfy at the time as they burnt them in. :(

They would have to work hard to steal her as she is a stubborn moo at the best of times and lives next to my cottage :D

my old mare who was almost black had to be done 3 times, the last one worked but i always kept the freezemark clipped in winter as she grew a lot of coat...was fine in the summer....

I had to have my boy done 3 times as his was the same. They just held the irons on much longer the 3rd time and it has come through very clear to read. I was worried it would be bald but it wasn't. No charge for the further visits. I'd go for the third time lucky!
