my youngster has had a few sarcoids which have been successfully treated with exxtera cream, he has one big one left and waiting to see how it reacts to the cream(this is the second application) but the vet has said if it doesnt it will have to be frozen off. has anyone any experience of this? also that said horse would need to go into the surgery to get done-bear in mind last time we went anywhere it took 3 hours to get him in the box so id rather he didnt! does anyone have any advice please?

Mine had one frozen off about 3 years ago. It was slap bang in the middle of his chest. Horrible to begin with after it was done (in the stable under sedation) and was a hassle to manage as it was where all the rug buckles lie across the front of the chest, it was done in the winter to avoid fly problems, so his rugs had to be modified, but it healed well, bit of a nasty scar which is a shame, but he's grey so I think that makes it worse as its a big black scar, but its never come back, well not yet anyway. *Crosses fingers, toes, hair*

My horse had 2 frozen 3wks ago so far so good. Bigger 1 cut out & frozen smaller 1 was just frozen. Was bit nasty at 1st lot of blood cos they don't get stitched but now just 2 black scars almost flat again. Really pleased as only 3 wks ago & vet hopeful it wil only leave 2 v small bald patches

Mine did go but then I've got transport & no loading probs so didn't ask bout getting done at home. Prefer vets 2 as is more sterile, if anything goes wrong is more vets on site & then horse didn't associate his stable with something nasty happening! Lol

An old RID gelding of mine had one on his neck that was frozen - it wasn't a great place for freezing as despite vet's best efforts, the freezing liquid ran off and he ended up with a much bigger 'wound' than there should have been. But it healed well and now only a tiny hairless patch.

Mine had one large one on her neck and small one near her teats. We had both frozen by Cryosurgery (not sure of spelling sorry) and they never ever came back. Cost a bit so claimed on insurance, with NFU easily done. She was sold 7 years later and the vet passed her 5 stage vetting saying she barely noticed them and if they hadn't come back they probably never would have.

The vet did it at our yard, and management was simple and easy. I was 14 at the time (now 21) and I don't remember having to do much to it!

Did leave a scar on neck, the bigger one of the two. But it was simply a bald patch and we never tried to get the hair back as it didn't matter to us what it looked like. People assumed it was a fly bite in summer and wasn't seen when hairy in winter.
