Hi everyone, I've searched through pretty much every thread I can find on wood pellets but am still at a bit of a loss about what to do regarding laying down a fresh bed in these sub-zero temperatures!

I'm really worried that the water will freeze before the bedding has had a chance to absorb it properly and 'dry out'.

Should I just try and use less water/hot water? Or maybe just put them in dry and let him stomp them around to break them down?

Thanks everyone, any advice greatly appreciated :D

I have changed over to straw and miscanthus pellets as they do not require watering down. But when I was using wood pellets, I would empty two 15 kg bags in a large wheelbarrow and spray with the hose (with spray attachment). I used warm water as they fluff up really quickly. I have one horse who is still on the wood pellets because she eats straw pellets . She has quite a deep bed and I just empty out two bags (not wetted) into her bed and throw over some of the old bedding. It then breaks down in the bed.

like wagtail - we also changed to straw pellets and have found them so much easier to use. Since you don't have to wet them they also are much more absorbant
