I have the unusual oportunity to own a 6yr old Boulonnais mare...im very keen to broaden my knowledge of the breed so would apreciate ANY adice, personal experience or societies i could maybe join.

many thanx A.

Hi, last month I got to know a charming gelding, he was crossed with an Arab,he was generous in nature, and very amenable, he had a quality look about him, I can e mail you a photo if you want. His feet were the size of a purebred though!
The owner uses him to trek around parts of France, he is a weight carrier, literally with all the kit needed, suspended from his saddle, a go anywhere type and a thoroughly nice boy,
Apparently, there are around 30 of these crosses bred each year in France and I hope your girlie turns out to be as good as him!

The Boulonnais is a lovely breed very laid back and happy to please. They do eat ton due to their size. They are now mainly bred in France for meat :( but they where original used as warhorses and then as draft horses to pull fresh fish to Paris.

Thanx very much for posts so far...she seem to have the laid back, sweet nature that comes with the breed but oh boy is she a size!!! and probably got the appitite to go with it!!!
It would be fantastic if i could find someone in the uk who does or has owned this breed in the past...so if your out there please get in touch....
many thanx Lea.:)

any pics of them arab cross, sound class. i love the full breds too, havent owned one but they say they are good doer's and not as bad as you think to feed, its more about keeping the weight of them as can get very fat, they are like me just have to look at food and put weight on, lol. hope all works out, keep us updated

The Arab cross I met was a very good doer and I am sure he cost next to nothing to keep, he was kept in a field with cows.
Sorry cant access above forum, and dont know how to put piccy on here. if you want to see a piccy of him, pm me your e mail address.
