Anyone tried a skinny horse on the conditioning mix..?

My 5 year old 17hh Oldenburg is gangly and needs weight.

Had him onTopspec diet for 6 months, recommended by topspec - balancer, Alfa a and conditioning feed

Never seen much change, then put him in pure feed condition he improved a bit but it was also as spring grasses coming through so think it might of been that

He looking skinny again and coat a little dull and want some weight on him before winter starts. A friend has Been on at me to try Frickers , convinced it will improve his condition .

So going to give it a try

Anyone else used it..??? And had good results..??
 
Sorry never used it but thinking what if your horse has an underlying problem? You seem to be feeding great feed and should see an improvement! Is he well wormed? Don't mean that disrespectfully but some wormers wouldn't do all parasites and a case bad case would need a strong wormer and would leave your horse not putting on the right condition and with a dull coat! There could be other things stopping condition to like ulcers or liver maybe? Sorry if I'm no help just know how annoying it can be trying to get your horse to look well and finding niggly things stopping the process! Hope you get it sorted
 
Defo not worms as had worm count done , as for ulcers very much doubt it, my last horse had them and he shows no normal symptoms at all. Think it's more a case of a big young lad growing needing a good conditioning feed, you can't see his ribs it's more over the back end, but that's also down to lack of muscle but im taking it very easy on him as don't want to ruin his joints before he even fully grown, so the muscle should come slowly with time. Fingers crossed.
The problem with the topspec was that the amount they said to feed him almost over faced him so he would often leave it even though it was split between 3 feeds . He can be quite fussy.
 
A girl at my yard fed frickers to her lovely warm blood and it sent it into a rearing, bucking, excitable frenzy, when it had previously been a very well mannered softie. It smells delicious, like apricots and liquorice, far too delicious IMO. Anything with that much sugar can't be good for the horse.
 
Hmmmm that is my worry..!! And my lad is so chilled out he almost horizontal and that's the way I like it.

I'm slightly concerned it might send him a bit batty.
 
I used to use the mix and nuts together with oil, it was okay but not fantastic, i got much faster better results from sugarbeet.
