As per usual, I sent a text to my farrier earlier in the week asking him to book my chap in - last night he sent a text at 1910 saying that he would come at 1015 this morning, I replied within a couple of minutes. Received a reply at 1918, saying too late he needed me to confirm OK by return! What the!!!!!!! FLaming well cheesed off big time as my horse is being vetted prior to sale on Tues and he needs shoeing, especially as the farrier cancelled due to rain 10 days ago!! No im furious actually.........

What happened to talking with each other on the phone.........

I wonder if the first text you received from him had been delayed, I've had this quite a lot recently?
Sounds very annoying though, I can't really comment as my farrier is excellent. Mind you he automatically books mine in for 5 weeks each time he comes down.

Texting farriers is much better - difficult to answer your mobile whilst you are in the middle of shoeing a horse!

Apparently not for my farrier

Well personally I wouldn't be too impressed if my farrier answered the phone whilst he was in the middle of nailing on! I always communicate with my OH by text while he is working, then he can call me back when he has finished at a call.

My farrier has one of the bluetooth thingies on him so that he can answer his phone whilst carrying on shoeing! If I need to contact him I do sometimes text him though as I don't like to think I'm interrupting his work!

I normally book my lad in for his next shoeing at the time he is being shod this time. My lad was shod this morning & I know when the farrier will be here again to shoe him next time. Doesn't everyone do this?

It's alot easier. If he loses a shoe or I need the farrier earlier then I'll contact him to arrange something else but normally everything goes smoothly.

Yes i do!!!If my lad throws a shoe i will leave a message if cant get hold of him, always rings back and there within days to put back on,often same day in summer as my lad goes dog lame if without shoe, specially on hard ground!!

We offer a similar system to our customers. They can choose to be rebooked on a 4/5/6 weekly basis and I will ring a week in advance to confirm their appointment time. Others, however, prefer not to avail themselves of that service and just ring up when they need to book an appointment.

My FArrier is the ultimate difficult to get hold of Farrier. DOesn't even own a mobile and refuses to get one. Last year one of his main clients bought him a pay as you go mobile for her personal use to contact him...ha ha

My farrier is a super star quite happy to deal with one very anxious owner with a large 17 hh irish boy who needs special big boy shoes 3 degree natural balance due to bad feet ( praise the lord for NFU ) he will come out on the day at short notice when finn has lost yet another shoe. Spend hours making them up and even puts up with me sharking him and giving him a tip for looking buff an a vest in summer.

I think he his happy to spend time at yard as our yard manager is stunning.

Am allowed to shark as am way over the hill. But really he is lovely and when the vet x rayed my boy he even came out to liaise with him.

He has been known to bring in and turn back out aswell.

QR - My old farrier used to contact ME ALOT by text!!
