Friday Woods, Colchester, Essex.

Hi
I have just moved to Colchester and wonder is it possible to hack round Friday Woods? I used to ride round the woods about 10 years ago but have noticed it's all fenced off now, the gates are padlocked and the access and entry points where you used to get on have restrictions fitted, to keep horses off while permitting walkers! I have checked the MOD website but can find no information on horse riding in Friday Woods and any local knowledge would be very helpful. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure you can but don't know the details. There's a very good Fb group 'Colchester Horse Riders uk, if you post the question on there you'll get lots of help! There's also another Fb group - Essex (horse?) riders which is very active and helpful too. Welcome back to Essex, I hope you enjoy your riding.
 
You can buy an annual pass to hack in Friday Woods, but they are limited to 100. If you ask Debbie Williams on Colchester Horse Riders she can give you details. You can also hack around Abberton Reservoir too that has miles of free hacking.

Oh that's brilliant, yes I know about Abberton Reservoir and the bridleways. Thanks for your help.
