My chestnut had a slightly puffy left hind tendon this morning (wasn't there last night) so I cold hosed him, ice-packed him and put stable bandages on him. He's been stabled since then. I was quite peeved since we were supposed to go showjumping on Monday but not panicking too much as he wasn't lame or sore at all and there was no heat, plus he's played polo for 8 years and never had a lame day, has tendons like steel cables. He also had 2 Bute as a precaution. I thought he might have knocked himself on something?

I've just been down to the yard now and the swelling has completely gone down and you'd not notice anything wrong with his leg at all so I've taken off the bandages and turned him out into a tiny pen in the field.

The question is:- how long should I leave him be? I'll get my long suffering vet dad to come and check him next week but what best to do? Should I give him a week off and see how he is? I don't want to box rest him as he's very stressy without his boyfriend and more likely to injure himself indoor than out.

Which is exactly what happened with my horse last week - I was convinced he was buggered.

Vet came up - found nothing and advised me to turn out and carry on working as normal - until / or if it happened again.....

Which is what I've done.

Exactly the same thing happened to my TB the other night after being stabled. I reckon he just bashed his leg when he was rolling. After a huge panic and lots of cold hosing I turned him out and its been fine ever since!!

My old horse used to puffy legs, we put it down to protein legs mostly in the summer if he had to come in for the night, i used to stable bandage his legs but once he was out in the field he walked it off, there was no heat etc
