I want to give Frankie a treatment for mites as he is itching his feathers loads.

I have various spot on doses for the dogs but have no idea what dose I should use on a 14hh cob. Any one have any idea? Also, does it go straight onto the leg?

i woould get your vet to give him 2 jabs of dextomax 2 weeks apart! and you wont have to worm him for at least 4 months and it will cure the itch and get rid of the mites! and will be cheaper long term than using frontline! esp if you tie the vet visit with either jabs/teeth/or shared visit or a zone visit if your vet does these.

As ofcourseyoucan says, the dectomax injections are really effective and work almost immediately. But they aren't cheap as you have to have the vet out for the 1st injection then again 10 days later for the 2nd. Frontline is good too but I prefer to use the Frontline spray (dog strength) as you can rub it really well into the feathers, right down to the skin. Whatever product you decide on, don't forget to repeat it after 10 days. Mite products only affect the adults so the eggs hatch out in approx 10 days and the horse is immediately re-infested if you don't treat him again. A further problem is that mites can drop off and live in bedding so the horse will almost certainly pick them up again. My horse needs the double dectomax at least twice a year. If I box him to the vets it's cheaper.
