Hello all, I wonder if I may be able to pick anyone’s brains?

we are in the process of buying an equestrian property, but have been advised that on one of our potential properties the pastureland lies in a frost hollow, I believe it just means that the ground is more likely to freeze over, does anyone know if this has any ramifications in terms of keeping horses on the land? Does anyone keep horses on particularly frost-prone land? Best to avoid?
Thank you!!

Is it all in a hollow, or just part of? As I'd personally rest the bit that was partial to the frost in the winter. Bit harder to do if all 20 acres say are the hollow...

Also, our winters are getting milder and milder, something to think about.

I think all of it unfortunately! That’s a great point though I can’t remember we had proper frost or snow

A frost hollow is just an area of land that will get frost before the surrounding land gets frost. Not really a concern with pasture but in a garden can play havoc with some plants.

Look at the slope of the land, which direction it faces, surrounding trees or features, and get to understand WHY it is a frost hollow.
It is possible for some land to go without direct sun for months in winter.
If it is actually a hollow, I would consider too if there is mud/bog or ponding in wet weather and how much grass it will support in summer. All depends on a lot of different factors.

More than half of my land sees no sun at all for at least 4 months of the year, so it's just unbelievably wet. (not a "frost hollow", but the north face of a steep hill- but it still might be relevant!)

I live at about 1100 feet. If I worried about frost I couldn't keep horses.
