frost proofing padlocks!

I arrived at the farm this morning to find I couldn't get my car in or horse out to the field! The yard gate and field gate are locked with a chain and padlock and I'm guessing them becoming frozen is going to become a regular occurrence

any top tips for preventing them freezing? My only idea so far is buying a flask to fill with boiling water to take with me to defrost everything

Squirt WD40 into the lock tonight, that should stop it freezing.

I have a small lock de-icer that I use. Just type in de-icer lock spray in google and it comes up with a few (not expensive about £0.90). Works a treat.

I take hot water in a thermal cup with me, but then I usually need to de-ice Bob's door catches as well.

Blowtorch. I am perfectly serious, not if there is any plastic about though.

My gate chains (anything metal come to think of it) are frequently frozen solid, I obviously can't go pouring water over anything when it is -15C.

Alternately, put a sock/ neoprene buckle bag/plastic bag etc over the padlock, not the door clip though obviously.
