Do you turn out/leave out in this frozen ground with plenty of hay or have you brought in?
Out. No problems so far. Last year, she was just a touch sore, so put her in hoof boots for turn out and problem solved.
Out 24/7 with lots of hay morning and night.
leave out with pleanty of hay
Mine manages to canter across sheet ice without so much as a slipshe has better traction than anything

All out 24/7...as my thread shows
i'm not sure if you can see, but 2 ponies have vet wrap pads with cotton wool on their front feet...i'll take them off when the ground softens..
A horse came in today hardly able to walk very sore on all 4 feet had been out 24/7 previously but in tonight, we literally had to drag the poor guy in. Hopefully he gets better but I think this is extreme as all the other horses who are barefoot at the yard are absolutly fine.
What is bad about the frozen ground and barefooters? Is it because the ground is hard so wears their feet down or such?
