Frozen ground - barefooters

Do you turn out/leave out in this frozen ground with plenty of hay or have you brought in?
 
Both of mine are out during the day. Our fields are pretty good though and completely unpoached with long grass so the ground is level and the grass a good cushion.

Ok, thanks you just made me feel a whole lot better - he was a bit footy so have put hoofboots on.

His usual routine which is out during the day, no hay, some grass left but not a huge amount - ground is pretty hard but not rutted so happy for him to go out.
He's pretty good on the ice and loves snow, only thing we don't like is deep ankle twisting ruts frozen hard but that's the same barefoot or not.
 
Same as normal, out at half seven, in at half five.

No hay as we have no snow. Neither of them seem to be remotely bothered even though the track to the field is rutted as anything. They're field is pretty flat though :)
 
A horse came in today hardly able to walk very sore on all 4 feet had been out 24/7 previously but in tonight, we literally had to drag the poor guy in. Hopefully he gets better but I think this is extreme as all the other horses who are barefoot at the yard are absolutly fine.

My girl was the same last week, other two fine. I brought her in for 3 days to give a feet a rest, she's now back out and sound. (cant keep her in for long as she gets colic through stress of being in)

NP what a good idea the vet wrap with cotton wool, was trying to think of an alternative to her hoof boots, thank you... :D
 
What is bad about the frozen ground and barefooters? Is it because the ground is hard so wears their feet down or such?

Mine got a bit footy (sensitive) this morning. Not noticed any wearing down although some wear would be a good thing in his case....
 
My unshod adults are all fine but one of my yearlings has a very sore foot atm, last night of poulticing tonight as vet thinks possible absess or bruise. Ground very, very hard, wish this weather would warm up, even a little bit.
