Frozen padlock

All last week I was hampered by my yard lock freezing twice a day requiring the use of a small blow torch to defrost it. I finally got fed up with it when we had the fierce east wind which kept blowing the torch out so I couldn't do it!
Now my padlock is put to bed wrapped in a ziplock bag full of straw and despite it being -9 this morning it was fine! OH pooh poohed my idea, but even he was impressed with it today.

Now just the tap to sort!
 
I wrap my tap in hay in a carrier bag, which was working fine, till pony decided that the 200 kilo round bale wasnt enough and ate the hay from the bag! Hay used to be used as an insulator in the good old days!

Definately WD 40, last time my padlock seized up after days and days and days of torrential rain, I brought it home, dried it out in the oven then soaked it in WD40 - called CRC here in NZ - lock has worked perfectly since.
 
IF any damp inside then soak in WD40! You can get the liquid version from ANY good Car or Lorry place!

Soak during the day and then stick on at night - guaranteed to reach all the parts the spray can doesn't!

Failing that 95% alcohol does the same thing
