How do you try to stop your horses water freezing in the stable? if there is any way too.
Also do you leave your horses water cold or warm it up with some hot water?

Oh crumbs! I didn't know it would...

I'm new to all this horse care and the snow and sub zero temperatures are flushing out all kinds of issues.

I look forward to everyone elses tips.

I used to warm it up with a little hot water, made it last longer and was more pleasant for the horse I think! If you leave a tennis ball in the bucket, it stops it freezing because it keeps moving round! and often bedding the sides a little bit with the shavings or straw help keep it a bit warmer!

I tried puting a ball in the yongsters bucket outside but he wanted to play with it and when he couldn't get it out with his mouth he put his foot in the bucket and tipped it over

Didn't think of putting bedding round it.

i pour about kettleful of boiling water in a stubbs bucket (holds 2 normal water buckets), usually good enough for hours. horses don't mind a bit of icy water anyway, they happily break the ice in the field and drink (unless they're too thick to work out how to break the ice...!)

Sit the bucked in a rotting dung-filled tyre. Water doesn't freeze, but you need to shovel in fresh stuff off the muck heap every day!

That also works for field buckets.

I just go out and buy heated buckets/water bowls that plug in, horses, dogs, cats, goat, rabbits, they all have them.
