so i was wondering what veg ( and possibly fruit) horses enjoy eating- other than the usual apples and carrotts?

i know you can tie a swede up in a stable, is there any reason you couldnt put one loose in the field- would horses nibble it/push it about ??

:)

I put swedes, bananas and cabbages in my horses feeds or loose in the stable! My boy always saves the cabbages leaves til last if i put them in his dinners! :D

I put pretty much any left over veg or peelings from dinner in his feeds, this includes cabbage potatoe peelings, parsnips, brocli, beans... Yöu get the jist :) I like to think he enjoys the extra bits he gets in his feeds. He seems to dig the veggie bit out first to eat anyway :)

Most fruit and veg are fine. Potatoes can be poisonous, not easily digested and full of starch so not a good idea. Sweet potato is fine. Lettuce is not advisable for most animals so I imagine the same for horses. Brassicas are good too.

Anything but potatoe peeling really. I chuck a swede in the field occasionally or in with their feed to give them something to do out in the field overnight
