The mare has a horizontal crack around the back of the hoof about 1 inch long round to the cleft of frog, we poulticed, tubbed, mag sulphated but still ended up having to put her on antibiotics, she's had one course and had to go on to a stronger dose and bute because she was on three legs. What i can't understand is the vet that came each time would not dig around so i don't know how deep the crack goes, surely he would want to know incase it needed flushing or paring away as if there is still dirt in it (which is highly possible) the infection will just return. just seems daft to me filling her full of antibiotics without treating the cause?
