I'd entered a local ODE today and was really looking forward to it. Yesterday I walked the SJ and XC courses. XC was quite basic but would give us the chance to work on our pace (need to remember to go faster!). Boo was really silly and spooky when I schooled him, but persevered for ages and managed to practice the elements of the test, then run through it.
This morning, got him in and was just finishing plaiting when I got a call to say it was cancelled due to the weather. It hasn't been that bad, but I suppose they were worried about the ground.
As we were all dressed up with nowhere to go I hacked over to local show that was doing clear round jumping. I went with one of the kids from the yard and by the time we got there, Boo decided that her pony was his new girlfriend and was a nightmare everytime she left him. He's done this before, but always been fine as soon as he gets into the ring. Today he decided to mess about. Got him round clear at the second attempt, over a 2' course.

I feel like I've achieved nothing, and even gone backwards. Last weekend we did a ODE and he jumped double clear at 2'6, and did it really nicely. Its so frustrating - I can't remember the last time he stopped sj before today. Last weekend he was really chilled, today he was a monster. Mind you I rode like a muppet, so that didn't help! I also wasted most of yesterday preparing for an event that didn't happen.

Well done if you've made it to here - at least I feel better for having vented. Now need to go and find another event to do so he can redeem himself!

Poor you, as you already know I'm in pretty much the same situation! Where you going to Rabson Manor? If so, I'm not very far from there and can totally understand why they cancelled - we're bottomless here!

Hope you find somewhere to get out next weekend; there really doesnt seem much on at the moment!

Yes, I was meant to be doing the Kennet Riding Club One Day. The ground was pretty hard when we walked it yesterday so I was a bit surprised that they cancelled. I suppose most of their business is hiring the facilities for schooling so they didn't want 80 odd horses cutting it up plus all the lorries and trailers.
At least I didn't lose my entry fee like you did - I've been in that situation before when I wouldn't travel due to high winds. Its hard, but you have to do what's best for you and your horse.
You're right there doesn't seem to be much else on. I'm off on holiday next Sat for a week so will probably plan some schooling when I get back. Hope you find something soon too.
