We were at the Longines show jumping in London yesterday. Yet again (I’ve also seen it happen at Olympia) the classes were used as warm up classes for the bigger classes at the weekend. In the afternoon class it was SO frustrating that only a handful of the competitors treated it as a competition. We had riders going clear but retiring before continuing to the jump off, riders going so slow that they were never going to make the time to go clear and even some not completing the course. Only a handful tried (Thank you Will Funnell!). The evening class was a bit better. It was a speed class (with pretty good prize money) but you knew as soon as a rider started that, yet again, they weren’t trying to be competitive as they were going so slow.

As a member of the paying public I felt a bit cheated. 😡
