How many of us have larger than average legs? I have spent all day searching for long leather riding boots for a friend who has 43cm carfs (that I will also need soon). Loads of companies offer wide fit but it's only 39 to 40cm. That's not wide!!! That's barely above average. It doesn't make any sense, not all riders are like bean poles (i'd say most are not) and alot of riders develope alot of muscle making their carfs bigger anyway so why oh why don't boot makers take this into consideration. My sister wears size 8 clothes and looking at the size guides on many of the boots she would need to order a wide fit boot....WHAT!!!

Anyhow, i've found 3 pairs....Fuller Fillies Show boot and field boot which are horrible looking things and a Mountain Horse Richmond High Rider which thankfully is a lovely looking boot. So really i'm left with 1 choice!

Anyone else have trouble getting boots wide enough?

Some lovely boots there, love the Derby and the Norfolk. Need competition boots (dressage), the Eleegance ones for her which they don't offer in additional widths.

I find my calf muscles make standard fit boots tough to fasten, but wider ones look like wellies round my ankles and knees........

I really like the look of the Norfolk Boots on the Tuffa site - wish I'd seen this before I'd ordered my Mountain Horse ones .

I have 18inch (45cms) calves so OP I feel your pain. I also have a high instep so have trouble getting my feet actually into the bottom (feet part) of the boots. Most of the time I stick to joddy boots and chaps where I can but having just shelled out £108 for some ariat leather chaps which are so uncomfortable I think I may try those Tuffa boots if my MH ones come and don't fit!!

You and your friend have my sympathies, I was in exactly the same position and went for the Mountain Horse Richmond which is very smart. If you have a calf measuring anything over 40cms boot shopping is the most depressing experience. Yes companies like de Niro and Brogini do loads of sizes but if like me you have a small foot and wider calf forget it.

I sympathise with you i have trouble finding long boots to fit my stumpy legs.

I only have a 15inch length lower leg. So far the only boots to fit me are the toggi Calgary's but they are a bit too clumpy for competitions :(

ive just bought some mountain horse long leather (husband hasnt forgiven me - they were £260!!!) :D i'm a standard fit, BUT they do loads of width fittings (in different types they dont have to be £260). I bought mine from Towerfields (?) Saddlers at Burghley but they had a mountain horse rep there that fitted me properly. I might be skint but I love em!

Joining in with the fat calf rant :( mine are about 43-44 cms, and I can't get nice boots to fit that don't cost a fortune! I'm generally a stupid shape - my feet are fairly tiddly (5-6) for my height (5'8"), so it's an absolute b*gger, because my calves are long AND fat. My little sister has the MH Rimfrost riders in a size 7 wide calf, the legs would be a lovely fit of only they were 3 inches taller!

Grr

I bought some gaiters in the end, made to measure off eBay for only £45!! They are fab too. Really pleased with them. When they first came back they flared out a little at the bottom, so I sent them back and they altered the free of charge. They were really helpful and wanted to make sure I was happy with them. If you search for "Made to Measure Leather Gaiters" on eBay you'll find them.

I had awful trouble finding long boots to fit my calves as they are very thin and short. The boots that fit height wise were too wide, and those that fit width wise were too tall. I bought a pair of Sergio Grasso boots though in the narrowest size possible and they fit perfectly, they have a range of width and height sizes so maybe try those for wide calves? Expensive but definitely worth it.
