FT: Bought my friend a horse for christmas

So I was on dd last week, saw this 8 month old cob colt for sale £120, I went and saw it today and woopsie came home with him.

My friend wants a horse for christmas so i bought her one. She doesnt have a stable or land but says she'll keep one in her back yard. I know she wants to do showjumping in January so can anyone give me any tips how she can get in shows by january please?

Also, where do I find a box big enough to put him in for christmas? I will give her the present on the 24th but she cant open it till xmas, any ideas?

No.. oh my goodness, does nobody know what a funtopic is?
 
I recommend renting a skip, filling said skip with hay and ponio (and maybe a couple of x-poles so it can keep it's eye in for Jan - it'll officially be 1 by then so totally ready), cover with tarpaulin and finish off with a big bow and hide it on the driveway:p
 
You are clearly clueless, or you'd have researched the biggest boxes available & bought a horse that fitted. Classic novice mistake, but what's done is done. Buy enough sheepskin pads to sew into wrapping paper. Provided you use enough sheepskin on your horse, it combats the effect of keeping it in an unnatural environment. And a dually & 85' line incase it trys to make a run for it while you're sellotaping it in the wrapping.

I must admit, Littlelegs, it was a spur of the moment thing. I didnt bother getting him vetted, I wont have him that long. Boxes are expensive nowadays you know. I'll know to research big boxes before I buy another one!! I have some string he's currently stood on my doorstep. Probably asking for carrots, bloody youngsters, so so greedy.
 
Just put some of it's dung in a shoebox and give that to her. If she thinks you are rude then you can keep the.. Er horse, and disown her. If she thinks you are a wonderful person and that you've bought her a horse then she can have it. :D meanwhile it'll be fine in the garage, if you have one. Failing that the garden shed will do. :D

If he's on the doorstep, attempting to get in the house you must nip it in the bud. If you let him invade your space who knows how far he'll push his luck? Perhaps use him for breeding till xmas? Stud fee will cover the box.

Awwwww What a lovely thing to do, she is soooooooooo lucky :D

A little colt, she will be able to breed from him next year too, lots of little cobby babies :D

I wouldn't worry about a stable or land. If you nip down the local auction you should pick up a tether for next to nothing. There is plenty of room on the motorway verges and in the middle of roundbouts to tether him. Useful for traffic proofing too.

No problem with shoeing either as I expect he is barefoot. This will definately help with the showjumping. Those shoes add a lot of weight to their feet and make them knock fences down.

Perhaps you could nip down the local riding school and borrow their school. As long as you wait till dark I'm sure they wont mind.

You can buy some lovely new tack on ebay for next to nothing. Check the photos to see if it looks the right size for his back.

Perhaps you could find a pallet he would fit in to wrap him up. You would probably need a fork lift to deliver it, but worth it to see her face on Christmas morning :D

Don't forget to add some air-holes to the tarpaulin. That would be irresponsible.

Already got that, the adverts here;

'' Black and white stallion 8 months old, will have lots of feather in the future, is also going to be a showjumper next year, already training to drive. Will be a great daddy if you want a showjumper or driving horse. £4000 per mating.''

I found the cardboard box! I'll load him in on the 24th and i'll hire a forklift to deliver him christmas day, she's not home until 6pm so will have to be a late prezzie..

I've got some string, i'll just tie it to my gate and let it stay outside until christmas eve. I'll give it carrots when I can be bothered, if its near grass it wont matter if i forget..
