After my post about a wierd rash on my horses leg it has turned out to be mud fever. It was clearing up but it then went onto 3 of her legs so got the vet out. It is mudfever in the early stages.

Vet has given me fuciderm gel to put on for 5 days as well as Anti B's. However, the gel won't last that long being put on twice a day on 3 legs. And I don't want to splash out on more expensive cream is there is just as good an alternative. Preferabily something I can use for the rest of the winter so we don't get a repeat of the mudfever!

Are there any alternatives I could use?

D :D

Such a shame dermobian stopped being manufactured, there was nothing like it to sort out mudfever.

I have heard that manuka honey can be very good for mud fever, but I haven't tried it myself.

i use athletes foot powder on mud fever and it always works well, how ever is horse is having to go out in mud.. it wont work.

you can buy something called honey heal, which is manuka hunny based, really good stuff and will create a barrier against the mud.

id get some athletes foot powder give the mud fever a good soak wil warm salt water get the scabs off apply powder and just leave it to work. Ime, it normally only takes a few days to start to see a difference.

the honey heal can act as a good barrier when she goes out again, will try and find a link'
