Fuel contamination....... Tesco???

Is this the new theory for your trailer judder??
confused.gif

Yep..... can you tell i am getting peed off now....

Martin drove the car today and said its not the trailer.... its a characteristic of the car!!! Buy why just mine then.... no one else says theirs is jerky

Latest theory suggested in another post from earlier..... but they havent come back to tell me what it would feel like...... hopefully jerky!!!

The best journeys were the first ones..... before I filled up...... so could be????

We had contaminated fuel in our area a few years back, not sure what the contaminant was though.
Anyway, cars stopped working and pretty much needed a new engine.

You said earlier it's a new car, it's probably teething problems, it's pretty common in new cars. I would take it back for a check over asap if I were you and make sure you take them for a drive in it, don't let them just have a verbal description of the problem.

Did you put the right fuel in???

LOL yesterday at Sainsbury's someone had one off those vans their draining their tank as they had put the wrong fuel in and then when I was at the till another person was asking the cashier if their diesel car would be O.K. as they had just put in £8 of petrol!!!

I spend the whole time checking OCD style that I am putting in Diesel and not petrol..... just incase halfway through I have a lapse and change nozzles

Just saw this on google..............

[ QUOTE ]
The BBC has received several thousand e-mails from motorists who say their vehicles have juddered, misfired and suffered a loss of power.

[/ QUOTE ]

The word JUDDERED is there...... but I think they rectified the problem in March 2007.......

What now

My car always plays up when I use tesco petrol, never when filled from elsewhere. It kinda ... stutters and loses it's power. Could stuttering be juddering?
confused.gif

Could well be...... its like being snagged when driving, like the trailer is holding it back (and worse when the trailer is actually attached) but other times too, or I could just be imagining it

Getting paranoid now I have to say and analyse every turn of the wheels

Feels a bit of a struggle too though never goes over 2 1/2 thousand revs so not actually labouring.

How long have you owned the car? Was it bought privately or from a dealer? Is it due for a service? It might be a problem with the fuel, but last time Tesco sold contaminated fuel, it was all over the media. I am wondering if there is a fault with the car's fuel system.

I have had it six weeks, bought from a dealer and fully serviced as part of the deal.

I think the fuel thing is grasping at straws as its a long time ago now.

I think I should book it in for a look. Its a shame because it towed beautifully the first few times

Someone posted on here a couple of weeks ago about fulling up with contaminated fuel at Tesco. I can't remember who it was tho, sorry

I was told by a mechanic friend of mine never to use supermarket fuel as it's cheap and nasty stuff. I only ever fill up at a supermarket if I'm totally desperate and running on fumes.

But if it only judders when pulling your trailer then I'd discount a fuel problem. If it was fuel it'd judder whether the trailer was attached or not.

Could be your clutch. Do the test that was in H&H last week. Stick car in fourth or fifth and try to do a standing start. If clutch is fine car should stall. If clutch is slipping then your revs will just go up and up.

Why not speak to a tow bar specialist. Mine is really good about things like this and knows all the cars and reasons why things may happen. May be something to do with the towbar anyway - worth checking out.

Look in yellow pages for an independent specialist rather than someone at the garage who sometimes puts tow bars on - there is a massive difference.

Also, I bet there is a Sorento forum somewhere on the internet, and it is worth asking the question there as well.

my sons car had a fuel problem (tesco) about 2 months after it had all finished. he just kept losing power then it eventually stopped. it was very jerky. but saying that i had a shogun that did this and it went in and outof garage and diesel engine specialist and thay could find nothing. it was horrid to drive it would lose power and go into a sort of limp mode then eventually cut out. when i then got it to satrt again after about 5 goes it was fine. mine was an auto so i had no control apart from keep dropping it down in the auto gearbox to try and keep the revs going. good luck i had to sell mine in the end. i part ex at a garage

I agree it's possibly a sensor, or the air control valve, or similar. In mine it was the ECU (Electric Coil Unit), but then mine is a sh*te (new shape) Fiesta.

No problems with Waitrose fuel.
All ours comes from BP but I believe Tesco buy from whoever is cheapest at the time and don't have a regular supplier hence the quality variations

Just rang Kia and they say steer well clear of tesco fuel..... its not good stuff...... go for branded fuel.

Going to try this and if no better they will take it in for testing

It was me that posted a couple of weeks ago. I lost a whole (£80) tank of diesel. The garage said it was contaminated (smelt like parafin!) but Tesco wouldn't cough up. The fact that Tesco have a whole department for fuel complaints makes me suspicious. Will never buy from them again. I used some V-Power diesel from Shell since & I think my Sorento runs best on that. I'm sure your juddering is the same. Its at its worst in 3rd gear I reckon. Just hope that your car doesn't conk out completely while you use that diesel up like mine did. Good luck!
