Just wondered what your fuel economy is like when you take you horse(s) out, say for competitions?

Please state what you drive, what you carry and what your MPG is.

(MPG = Miles per gallon. There are about 4.5 litres in a gallon)

I drive my Nissan Micra to steward or backstep at driving events, and it returns about 40 mpg, based on how I drive

I have a shogun and get about 24mpg

Towing I would imagine it's down to about about 16mp or so? (It worked out about 50p per mile on my last trip with 2 horses)

Not cool. I now walk to work.

25 miles to the gallon! I do 100 miles per day just on my son's school run so I am using about £130 per week in fuel. Thinking of taking up flying!! I think about 18 MPG for towing

I get 26.3MPG out of my little 4x4 (Grand Vitara) but I haven't used that for towing much yet. I have no idea what the lorry does and to be qiute honest I don't think I want to know!

Tow with a Grand Vitara - probably get 20-22pmg towing the trailer, but only go max 8-10 miles anyway. Normal driving, about 30ish.

Unless I'm taking trailer out, use Honda Jazz for going to farm/work & general running about - get 46MPG out of that!

I have a Toyota RAV4 and I apparently get about 26MPG. I don't tow with it though.
TBH I don't look at petrol prices these days. I stick it in, pay for it... grit my teeth... Luckily my horse is kept within walking distance now though so I only really take my car to work!

i used to tow with a jeep c got 21mpg (less when towing) couldnt afford to keep it and day to day running (fuel) selling (bought a run around car get 35mpg )and bought a lorry, lorry does about 20mpg but dont take it to work(LOL) so no running around costs!!!

Daily use Astra (boring but practical!) I get about 40mpg from that but do about 120 miles a day. Did have a Shogunbut sold it a while back and now have the astra and 3.5tonne lorry that does about 20mpg and the astra saves me in fuel costs what it costs to insure, tax and service the lorry!

i get about 25mpg (2007 Nissan Navara) but I am sure the computer is lying to me to keep me happy cos it seems to go down too quickly!
18mpg towing a 510 and a 730kg Romeo

although not towing when I last drove diesel was £1.12 and cost me £82 to fill up and computer said I would get 402 miles out of that!!!!

eeeeeeeeek. Thank God we didn't have this vehicle in the UK, 9mpg! A friend of ours drives a massive tank of a truck and gets just 5mpg!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ford Mondeo diesel, 1900. I get around 48 - 50 mpg. It can even pull my trailer with one horse in. I'd love a 4 wheel drive but I couldn't afford to drive anything with a lower mpg with the cost of diesel.

landrover discovery 24mpg or 21 when towing.

Have just got OH to do the school run finally so I'm survivng for now. (He should do it he works half a mile from the school after all).

It is scarey though, thankfully mines an older model so no affected by the nasty taxc increases.
