Hello - I have a 2001 plate Discovery, which always has something wrong with it. I bought it as my husband fixes anything with a Landrover badge on, so we have saved alot in labour costs, but it guzzles fuel, and what with one prob after another it HAS to go.

I need something which doesn't guzzle, can fit some bales in (2), and when not got bales in, I need to get a pram, couple of dogs and 2 small kids. We also live in the middle of 2 fords which can get quite full, and also the roads round here are not gritted in winter. Am I searching for the moon on a stick? Any ideas/experiences?

I've got a 2011 Freelander2 Sport (automatic). It is not bad on fuel and goes like the proverbial off a shovel. I would definitely recommend a Freelander.

I am just about to pass on my Nissan X-trail which was a brilliant car, has a large boot and does about 40mpg, you can also tow a fairly decent weight but i need a bit more towing capacity now so am moving on to the Nissan pathfinder which apparently gets around 28mpg.

Only things car has been in the garage for are mechanical parts wearing out, so very happy with that.

Good luck with your search :-)
