Dan normally has a hunter clip sort of thing, half head & all leg fluff left on. Having him sedated Sunday and the lot removed, legs and head too I hope.

He will be out all day and in at night, well rugged. Is it worth buying some gamgee or leg wraps and having his legs bandaged when the nights are coldest? Or will it not make much difference?

He will have a decent bed (shavings) and rubber mats, but will be in the stable closest to the doorway and it might be more drafty than he's used to! He's also quite a wimp when it comes to cold :p
Or am I worrying too much!?

Thanks

I'm good at worrying, so it doesn't work like that - I'd only find another reason to worry ;)
I will probably be told on Sunday one way or the other by the person doing him for me, either that I'm being too nice or I'm cruel! Had forgotten about that :o

this thread made me smile....do a search for 'whinny warmers' on google!

to be honest I'd only worry about cold legs if your horse was arthritic for example and lived out permanently. Or as flying solo says if you are worried just don't clip the legs! I'm not a fan of bandaging unless it is absolutely necessary

:D I could see Dan in some of those, do they do them in rainbow colour!? :p

Ok, will admit that he should be fine. The fluff will grow back quick enough anyway  He's been getting 2 good weeks out of each clip, pushing it to 4 for each but he looks like a bear! :o

Personally I wouldn't be removing the leg hair as it protects the legs from injuries. He will need bandages on at night to stay warm in his stable and also outside if the weather is really cold. The skin can become chapped very easily.

Although a full clip looks very smart, personally would just take off literally what needs taking off, no more! :)

As per the others if you are worried about his little leggies getting chilly then don't clip them. Would not bandage when in or out. With my very, very hairy boy he has his legs off for first 3 / 4 clips then I leave them on and just trim feathers. However he is a Perch X so does get VERY fluffy legs and is hunting at least once a week if not more.
