To set the scene of the yard - very small private yard, brick stables, tack and feed room. All year round turnout. Excellent hacking but no school etc.

What would you expect to pay for the following:-

In winter - horse fed am plus haynet, rug changed, turned out, mucked out, brought in, fed, water changed, hay again, rugs changed again, groomed. Occasional riding if required - say 2 x per week.

This would include ad lib hay, hard feed and shavings bedding. The only extras would be veterinary bills, farrier and worming (and dentist/physio if ever needed).

Mainly 5 days a week, part DIY on weekends though feed/hay/shavings would still be provided, and possibly either feeding/rugs/turnout on the morning or bringing in feeding and rug change on the evening.

We have a friend who wants a horse on full livery - with us, and we want it on a proper footing so we all know what is done and when and a reasonable charge for it.

I'm anticipating that if she buys something similar to ours - we will go through 1 large bale of hay/week between 4 of us, 1 bale of shavings each a week plus hard feed. Stable rent is £60 per month for the stable and use of field. Oh shavings are £5 per bale, hay £25 per bale, would be fed on most likely speedi beet, alfa A oil and mix like the rest!

Need ideas folks!

Ta!

£75 per week buys everything except grooming, tack cleaning and exercising. Exercising is £10 / hr on top if we want it.

ETS: That includes free use of indoor and outdoor schools too.

I would expect to pay about £85 pw for what you are offering minus exercising but that would include use of a floodlit school.
Without the school if you include the exercising for no additional cost then I think £85 would still be fair.

Hm see thats not full livery is it they still have to do weekends.

£55 - £60 PW sounds fair on that basis to me.

I only paid £75 for proper full livery inc excersise

Well the idea is basically full livery with some exercise but the owner will get down to ride at least one night during the week (though rest would be done like mucking out) - and wants to be down once a day on the weekend so she will do her own then as she wants to.

Where may be weekends she's working away so it will be full again on those weekends. But the weekend arrangement would be either she'd be down on a morning and do her own horse but then we'd do the evening, or vice versa.

Thanks for the help, I'll print this out as a starting point.

PS AliBabe - your name change makes me smile every time I see it! Definitely a good one!

Jeez I'm moving in Ali! Mine's £73.50 p/wk and that doesn't include exercising or grooming! If you want any more nets (other than two) it's 50p a net - Plus - if she has to stay in due to box rest - you can add on another £3.50 A DAY!!!

It's virtually impossible to make money on this type of livery below £85/week plus £7.50 for exercising, thats what we charge and it's very competitive for this area

They turn out, muck out, feed, rug up etc. Its just that I would like to groom and obviousley ride. In Summer I think i will go to DIY as I will have a car by then instead of relaying on buses etc.

Full livery at our yard (reasonably near you so prob. about same prices) for a 15.1hh and below is £60, but that's just 5 day a week, DIY at weekends. 7 day week is £72, and then it increases by £5 up to 16.2, then £5 again for above.

That includes everything apart from grooming and exercise. And the yard has rubber matted stables with automatic water drinkers, outdoor school, xc course, sj fields, horsewalker.

Part livery here includes:
All haylage plus morning hard feed (you provide evening hard feed)
Rack of hay plus morning feed given 7 days per week
Stable rug taken off, outdoor rug put on and horse let out Mon-Fri (excluding bank holidays)

Full livery doesn't normally include exercise or grooming!

To me, full livery is just that. EVERYTHING done for the horse. If the owner HAS to come down to feed, rug etc, then that is part livery.

I pay £170 per week full livery. This includes haylege, supplements, hard feed,
worming, exercising and schooling, trips to Windsor Great Park, use of 60x20 outdoor arena, indoor stabling, full grooming and strapping every day, preparation for shows, plaiting etc., lessons for me if I want them.

It does not include cost for travelling to show and shoeing.

I agree with you FMM....although around our way they distinguish between Full Livery and Schooling / Competition Livery. Full Livery being everything including exercising (hacking and horsewalker), grooming and tack cleaning. Schooling / Competition Livery being Full Livery plus actually schooling your horse, and plaiting etc for shows. They tend to come in around £105 p/w and £150 p/w respectively.

over here it's anything from €100 (only includes some turn out) to €380 (Grand Prix dressage yard and includes two lessons a week...)

For €120 (including vat) I am getting full horse care - feeding, rugging etc. turnout 3 -4 hours a day, schooling 5 days a week
groom myself, clean my own tack and pay extra for vets fees and shoeing

I will be on full livery soon, and I think it is 23 a day which includes: maintainging shaving/straw bedding, muck and skip out daily, feed, water and hay daily, turnout and bring in daily, fit rugs and boots as required, assist vet/farrier etcc, grooming as required, tack cleaning as required, and exercising 3 times a week per the owners instructions..
I think that adds up to..115 a week..and that would be 460 a month...

Hope this helps.
