Hi

I'm looking to relocate (me and horse) to Oxfordshire and wondered if anyone could give me any full livery (no riding) yard recommendations, ideally with an eventing bias. So realistically I'm going to have to compromise on my wishlist but here goes (!):

Good facilities (indoor school, gallops would be amazing)
All year turnout (non-negotiable)
Onsite trainer
Traditional stable or barn with an outside window

A few places on my list are:
Alex Holman in Burford
Ginny Howe
The Stables in New Yatt
Lyneham Heath (not sure there's livery)
Jodie Amos at A le W (not preferred location)
Flora Harris (not preferred location)
Molly Parkinson

Many thanks!

Oxfordshire is a pretty big country, and the traffic around Oxford and the ring road can be dire (and not something you want to be navigating every day if possible!) - so would be useful to know preferred direction N/S/E/W of Oxfordshire and commuting times.

For example you have a hub of riders on the ox/wilts border in the south on the downs

Mine are with Ginny.

It's very much a family run yard with a very relaxed atmosphere. They don't have an indoor but you can school and jump on grass or in the school.

The stables are wood, generally built in squares so they look out across each other over the yard. There is always something going on but generally at a relaxed pace, so my two seem very settled and happy in their stables.

Mine are out a couple of hours a day unless it's really vile weather. They also go on the walker and are ridden. They are both very easy like that though, and will live out or stable perfectly well. If I feel like they need some down time or the turnout hasn't been sustainable due to the weather, I bring them home for a holiday.

The yard staff are all very friendly and helpful, and mine are exercised for me during the week. No one seems snappy or tense, which is very important to me because I don't like walking into a tense atmosphere as a livery client.

Ginny's yard is very relaxed and casual in comparison to some others I have had mine on. It isn't super high-end, glitzy, instagram aesthetic etc. It is understated, honest, relaxed, friendly and all about quality of care. My horses have been happier there than with the bells and whistles in other yards.

Hi, thanks for the reply, much appreciated. To be honest, in terms of location I’m pretty flexible as I’ll be commuting into London a couple of times a week and have decided that I’d rather make the compromises on my side than my horse. That said, in an ideal world I’d be in West Oxfordshire.

Thank you so much for such a thoughtful and detailed reply and how lovely to hear your horses are so happy.
I’ve only heard good things re Ginny’s yard.
Thank you.

Just over the border in Wiltshire, but some friends of mine moved here and were very happy: https://downsequestriancentre.com/

There's also Ruy Fonseca, who has some beautiful looking facilities but I've no idea if he does livery. As IHW said, there are a few around the Oxon / West Berks / Wiltshire border.

ETA - just over the border again (Glocs) but also Sammi Birch: https://www.birchequestrian.com/livery

Kylie Roddy is just off junction 5 of the M40. She doesn't have an indoor school but has a big outdoor one.
